Los Angeles International Airport has now fully phased out single-use plastic water bottles, joining other California airports in Van Nuys and San Francisco, in an effort to minimize waste.
According to USA Today, this means that single-use plastic water bottles will no longer be found at vending machines, restaurants, or other concessions in LAX terminals, although the airport is making water bottle refilling stations available for travelers.
“We encourage our guests to help us reach our goal of eliminating plastic waste at the airport by bringing a reusable water bottle and filling it up at one of our many hydration stations,” Los Angeles World Airports CEO Justin Erbacci said, according to USA Today.
In San Francisco, travelers not only have water refill stations, they have a luxury experience for their hydration. Very futuristic refill stations dispense hot, cold, and room temperature water. It’s a far cry from the water fountains of our public high school pasts.

This is only going to become more common. Considering you can’t bring liquids through TSA, travelers will be even more likely to pack an empty reusable water bottle and fill it up while they wait at their gate.
This means that demand for reusable bottles for travelers will only grow from here.
